Speaker
The Wellington branch is pleased to be
able to host Sir Paul Grant who is the Head
Teacher of Robert Clack School in East London. He is visiting
New Zealand to share his experience of turning a failing school
in a low socio-economic area into one of the top 10 best state
schools in the UK. Recently knighted for his contribution to
Education in the UK, Sir Paul is considered a ‘Super
Head’ and what he has to say will be of great interest
to leaders throughout New Zealand’s education sector. |

NZEALS Meeting
Speaker: Kate Thornton
Topic: Leadership development - what can we
learn from leadership development programmes in the UK and
how relevant are they to the New Zealand context?
Kate was awarded the NZEALS Konica Minolta Dame Jean Herbison
Travel Scholarship in 2008 which enabled her to travel to the
UK to learn about leadership development programmes for heads
of Children's Centres and schools. In this presentation Kate
will talk about what she learnt and relate this to findings
from her recently submitted doctoral research into the use
of ICT to support leadership development in the New Zealand
ECE sector. Kate works in the Faculty of Education at Victoria
University and has teaching experience in the secondary, early
childhood and tertiary sectors.

In this new workshop, Andy will consider the way ahead for
education leaders beyond the constraints recently imposed by
standardization. The workshop is suitable for leaders of all
kinds, both within and outside schools. It deals with fundamental
issues about learning and schools. |

Narottam Bhindi, Director of The Australian Centre
for Educational Leadership at Wollongong University, Adjunct
Professor in Strategic Leadership at the University of Fiji,
and is currently Visiting Professor at AUT.
Dr Bhindi gave the following presentation: 'Sliding
Through The Mud: Sources & Consequences of Impoverished
Leadership'. |
