Mal Thompson, Dame Jean Herbison Scholarship winner for 2010
“Exploring literacy landscapes around the world”
Mal spoke about her trip to Germany investigating the ADORE project which identified effective literacy practices and subsequent actions in addressing identified gaps. The Dame Jean Herbison Travelling Scholarship also allowed her to attend the European Reading Congress, where common themes in adolescent literacy were explored and shared: improved student achievement with insufficient resources to support this, and pressure from governments around national testing and league tables.
