Minolta Dame Jean Herbison Scholar 2002

Dr Laurie Thew

aurie Thew - winner of the 2002 Minolta Dame Jean Herbison ScholarshipNZEALS congratulates Dr Laurie Thew, principal of Manurewa Central School in Auckland on his award of the 2002 Minolta Dame Jean Herbison Scholarship.

Laurie's focus of his award travel is on principals' professional development and the roll of leadership development centres. He intends to visit the National College for School Leadership in Nottingham, England in order to discover what principalship development programmes are applicable to both English and New Zealand settings.

He also proposes to investigate the Scottish Qualifications for Headship at Aberdeen University and follow up academic contacts at Bristol University.

Laurie aims to conduct a practical and theoretical analysis of British practices in order to bring further understanding to principalship development in New Zealand, which is still in relative infancy.

We are grateful for the support of Minolta New Zealand, which has made this fellowship possible.
